Wen you use a VMDK the default behaivior si the following.
Lets suppuse that you create a VM with a virtual disk of 15GB, in ESX the vmdk is diferent to vmware workstation, the vmdk must have the 15GB space alocated for better performance; when you use workstation you can shrink the disk to the minimum capacity.
what im saying is... if the 15GB Vdisk have only ocuped 5GB after you shrink it that its going to be the size and the vmdk will grow based on the use of it.

I tried to confert a VMDK to VHD and it seems to work but when i try to start the VHD inside VS2005R2SP1 the image will start but freeze when the grey loading indicator is full. 

Any sugestions?
