Stap 1: Backup maken
Maak eerst een backup van je database mocht deze extern draaien. Maak daarna een backup van de machine / VM.
Stap 2: requirements installeren
.Net 2.0 installeren, MMC 3.0 (Mocht je laatst SP2 voor Windows Server 2003 hebben geïnstalleerd, dan kun je deze stap overslaan) en Microsoft Report viewer.
Stap 3: WSUS 3.0 installeren
Nadat je de prerequirements hebt geïnstalleerd, kun je beginnen met de upgrade naar WSUS 3.0.
De setup wordt gestart en vindt een bestaande installatie van WSUS 2.0. Deze moet dus worden bijgewerkt naar WSUS 3.0.
De Setup wizard vindt een bestaande installatie van MSDE 2000 deze moet worden bijgwerkt naar Windows Internal Databse.
WSUS is bijgewerkt.
Herstart de Server.
Nadat je het nieuwe console hebt geopent en verbinding hebt gemaakt met de server, kun je beginnen met het inrichten en onderhouden van je WSUS 3.0 server.

Longhorn Beta 3 for everyone
Om bij de beta te kunnen komen dien je een Passport / live account te hebben. Daarmee log je in op de site en kun je vervolgens de beta “bestellen”. Helaas is het nog niet gelukt om de beta te downloaden.

Windows Server Core
Windows Server Core is een nieuwe optie binnen de Longhorn productlijn. Zoals de name als zegt is Windows Server Core een kaal besturingsyteem waarbij de explorer, internet explorer en de standaard management tools zijn er niet meer bij. Alles wordt nu via de commandline geregeld.

How to: install Windows Vista (Longhorn) 32Bit within VMware
Let op deze guide is alleen voor de 32Bit varianten van Windows Vista / Longhorn.
Zodra je Windows Vista of Longhorn in een VMware Virtual Machine wilt installeren vanaf een ISO krijg je de onderstaande foutmelding.
Dit kun je als volgt oplossen;
Download de vista driverdisk: http://sti.epfl.ch
Upload deze naar de vmimages dir op je ESX server ( Dit kun je doen met WinSCP).
Start de VM op vanaf de installatie CD en zorg ook dat de flp aangekoppeld is.
Zodra de error komt klik je op browse en selecteer je de floppy disk drive (A:).
Klik op next
En je kunt verder gaan met installeren!
Deze workaround is alleen nodig met VMware ESX 2.5.x, VMware ESX 3.0.x, VMware Workstation 5.5.x en VMware Server.
ADMX Migrator
Je kunt vanaf vandaag de ADMX migrator downloaden. Met deze tool kun je ADM files migreren naar ADMX.
Tevens heb je MMC3 nodig om deze tool te kunnen gebruiken.
